Innovation at Work:  Quad Structural Design Team Develops Sustainable Alternative to LAMa In-Store Displays

The innovation came as the result of Quad and our client’s desire to reduce  reliance on single-use plastics. “It started with three or four customers engaging with us to discover more sustainable solutions,” shared Kelly Burt, Vice President of Business Development with In-Store. “This year, new angles are coming in every week from customers focusing on sustainability.”

Coming out of spontaneous collaboration following its weekly meeting, the Structural Team’s (Mike Delie, Will Dicks, Tom Solomon, Chris Rozek and Mitch Miller) solution has simplified the assembly process, eliminated hundreds of thousands of plastic polybags and instruction sheets, and attracted the attention of numerous media outlets, including Industrial Print, Sustainable Packaging News, Packaging Impressions, Yahoo! Finance, Morningstar and CNN.

“This project began as a proactive strategy to retain business,” Kelly said, “but it solves a problem that is front of mind for potential clients as well.”

The project reinforces the power of Quad’s “maker” culture, the innovations we can create when we think differently, and our belief that what’s good for the environment is good for business.

“These are intentional changes to our offerings that we believe will generate long-term environmental benefits and contribute to our bottom line,” added Maura Packham, Quad’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Responsibility. “We’re committed to advancing our own environmental initiatives and bringing sustainable solutions to our clients.”
